The Prescription Julep dates to Jerry Thomas's 1862 bartending guide, conceived as a restorative tonic that splits its base between cognac and rye. The brandy brings a rounded, fruity warmth while the rye adds dry spice and backbone, both tempered by fresh mint and just enough sugar to smooth the edges. It drinks richer and more complex than its bourbon-based cousin, with the two spirits creating a layered depth that rewards slow sipping on a warm afternoon.
