The Oaxaca Old Fashioned, created by Phil Ward at Death & Co in 2007, helped launch mezcal into the American cocktail canon. The drink plays tequila's bright, vegetal notes against mezcal's earthy smoke, while agave syrup ties them together with clean sweetness.
