Despite its name, the Coffee Cocktail contains no coffee at all—a bit of Victorian-era misdirection that's endured since the 1880s. The whole egg creates a rich, creamy texture while port and cognac meld into something that merely resembles a cup of coffee in color and body. The drink is velvety and warming, with dried fruit sweetness from the port playing against the brandy's grape-forward depth, finished with a dusting of nutmeg that adds subtle spice to each sip.
